Hotel Rooms: Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives

If you ever find yourself stranded on a deserted island, make sure it’s at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa in the Maldives

The rooms:

Taj Exotica is spread out across Three Coconut Isle, a 15-minute speedboat ride from the bustling capital (and island) of Male. It’s a matter of choosing your water view here – check in to one of the spacious Lagoon Villas or really splurge and opt for an Ocean Suite with private pool and deck that backs out directly into the crystal-clear Indian Ocean.

Around the hotel:

When you’re not too busy discovering the colourful marine life on a snorkeling trip or soaking up the sun by the pool, there are four great restaurants and bars to whet your appetite. Restaurant 24 Degrees offers all-day dining by the beach, while Deep End Restaurant hovers over the water and serves up fresh seafood and grilled meats.

Sunsets are special in the Maldives, and the best place to catch them is at the Equator Bar, which opens from 4pm each day and has a menu of deliciously refreshing cocktails and wines, as well as assorted bar snacks.

Secluded islands are made for exploring, and activities aren’t just limited to snorkeling and sunbaking. Take a bespoke tour around the island on a paddle board or sailboat, or book a boat transfer back to Male to spend the day exploring the capital. You can even find your Zen with yoga and meditation in a specially designed pavilion that takes in the most relaxing views.

The Spa:

There are spas, and then there are spas. Jiva Spa is a must-experience when holidaying at Taj Exotica. You’ll find it occupying its own quiet corner of the island, complete with garden and spa rooms that hover over the surrounding lagoon (yes, the views are amazing). After your treatment, you can relax on the private deck that faces nothing but ocean, or find a hammock to swing in in the spa’s garden. True to the resort’s location, treatments draw on ancient Indian healing rituals, with everything from body exfoliation to deep tissue massages and facials on the menu. To complete your experience, order from the specially created food menu that offers Asian and Western dishes packed with nutrients.

The price:

Prices start from HK$6208 per night for a Lagoon Villa.
