The vogue for gorgeous wallpaper, pattern and print in boutique hotels – and homes – owes a lot to the posthumous revival of Australian talent Florence Broadhurst’s travel-inspired designs. New Zealand-born, Sydney-based husband-and-wife team David and Helen Lennie of Signature Prints can take credit for putting Florence firmly back on the map, reproducing and updating her work, which now adorns stylish clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels around the world. Here they share tips on their adopted neighbourhood of Sydney.

Where to eat

If you’re out to impress guests, Rockpool Bar & Grill, housed in a grand old bank in the centre of the city, is a sure-fire hit. Ivy Pool Club is a popular place for drinks (sister bar to Smith stay Establishment Hotel), plus the hip complex is home to a slew of hot restaurants.

What to do

When we hosted New York fashion label Kate Spade’s creative team, we took them for walks along Bondi Beach and a Harbour Bridge climb mixed with cocktails at Café Sydney on the roof of the Customs House. Sailing on Sydney Harbour is also pretty hard to beat.

Where to stay

Mr & Mrs Smith recommends three boutique hotels in Sydney, including party-ready Establishment Hotel in the CBD, stylish city stay Diamant Hotel Sydney in Kings Cross and colourful crashpad Medusa in café-laden Darlinghurst. Book with Smith for exclusive extras at all stays.
