French trunk-maker Moynat has just opened its first store in Hong Kong at the start of 2015. This will be the first store that Moynat has launched in Asia. Moynat has a history that dates back to 1849, when trunk-makers Octavie and François Coulembier  joint forces with Pauline Moynat to open their first store close to the Place du Théâtre Français, a few steps from the Comédie Française. The heart of Moynat lies in Pauline’s passion for beautiful objects, the theatre and French savoir-faire.   Moynat was a pioneer in designing the first line of women’s handbag at the end of the 19th century. Pauline’s relationship with the famous actress during the Belle Epoque period, Gabrille Réjane, saw the House of Moynat launch a new bag inspired by Réjane which is the first time bags were created in honour of a star, today celebrity bags have become the norm.

Today, Moynat is owned by the LVMH group and is known for its handcrafted made to order travel luggage and have since expanded to a whole range of bags, accessories and textile.  With flagship stores in Paris and London, their new store in Hong Kong is located at the Landmark and offers their signature personalization service like the hand painting of initials and made-to-measure trunks and handbags.

The new store is designed to feature the unique colours of antique Moynat trunks, and pays tribute to the brand’s heritage and Parisian origins.  “The Parisian twist is always a delicate chemistry of impertinence, refinement and creativity rooted in the history of the city of light. This gallery is an expression of this chemistry, which will allow visitors to discover a different aspect of Paris through the eyes of Moynat.” says the architect Gwenael Nicolas, director of Curiosity.
