Hong Kong just got a serious dose of cool with the opening of the first MM6 – Maison Martin Margiela store. The brand known for its artistic collaborations and contemporary style opened its debut outlet at the ifc mall in Central. To mark the event a special MM6 Private Guided Tour installation was set up at the ifc’s oval atrium, which takes inspiration from traditional tourist shops. Guests and customers are able to interact with merchandise and participate in ‘photo opportunities’ using the brands signature ‘6’ to create their own postcards.
MM6 was launched in 1997 and now counts over 10 stand-alone stores worldwide. In line with the instillation to mark the opening, the new MM6 store design concept revolves around black and white film, playing with photo negatives. The entrance stands out with its wall of brush bristles extending up to the ceiling. Misty silver concrete and parquet line the floor. Matt white walls are broken up by wooden panels and scraps of silver wallpaper. Silkscreen printed glass subdivides spaces by playing with transparency and mesh industrial aluminium grills create depth on the ceiling. Accessories are presented in large white enamelled metal boxes. The entire store plays with the unexpected, different levels of silver effect, traces of time and translucency.
The instillation is open for another week at ifc mall, so head down and create your own MM6 memory.
