Gagosian Hong Kong will present a set of new works by Los Angeles-based artist Sterling Ruby. Titled VIVIDS, the exhibition will run from the 13th of this month to October 25.
VIVIDS is a new suite of spray paintings in a palette of vibrant, fluorescent pink. Influenced by the sociological implications of urban demarcation, vandalism, and the power struggles of gang graffiti, Ruby’s work engages with issues related to the violence and pressures within society, autobiography, and art history. In his paintings, acts of defacement are transformed into the painterly sublime.
