Phillips – the global platform for buying and selling 20th and 21st century art and design – has announced its 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Evening Sale in Hong Kong that will be led by some big names in the arts and creative scene including Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, Anselm Kiefer, Danh Vo, Peter Doig and Gerhard Ricther. Held on 28 May in Mandarin Oriental, there will be 60 lots up for auction where it is expected to achieve sales of more than 100 million HKD.
What’s worth checking out is Yoshitomo Nara’s illustrations of little children, which has became a symbol of Japanese Neo-Pop. The painter’s Last Warrior/The Unknown Soldier is estimated to fetch between HK$20,000,000 to HK$30,000,000. The sale will also feature a standalone auction of over 200 photographs taken by Andy Warhol during his trip to Hong Kong and Beijing in 1982.
As for the design element of the sale, creative talent like designers Shiro Kuramata, Ron Arad and Danish architect Finn Juhl will showcase their objects of desire. For example, Juhl’s set of eight handcrafted Egyptian dining chairs and large extendable dining table that is estimated to fetch a sale of HK$570,000 and HK$700,00 (for the chairs) and HK$230,000 to HK$330,000.
