Grotto Fine Art will be showcasing a solo exhibition of one of Hong Kong’s leading artist, Joey Leung Ka-yin. Enitled Unpoetic Poems, this exhibition by Joey Leung features a new series of painted figure and still objects in comical composition.

Joey expresses a sense of irony and black humour with her visuals exploring reality and illusion, truth and what’s hidden. One of her painting titled – Oilfish Melon Soup with Egg Drop mocks the artificial food that is completely man-made without any natural ingredients listed in the title. Romantic encounters happen only in movies makes fun of fairy-tale-like narration in movies in the forms of digging clams to speak the brutal truth that coincidence only takes place in drama and movie plots.

Joey’s ability to draw her audience to reflect upon mundane life with her comical bright and vivid characters shows her mastery in engaging her audience and allows her to express an ironic and lyrical world.
