If you are travelling to Paris in October, make sure you catch the once in a lifetime exhibition happening at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Icons of Modern Art – The Shchukin Collection, happening from 22 October 2016 to 20 February 2016. The exhibition pays tribute to one of the greatest art patrons of the early 20th century, Sergei Shchukin, the visionary Russian collector of French modern art. Much of Shchukin’s collection revolves around his friendship with modern art dealers Paul Durand-Ruel, Berthe Weill, Ambroise Vollard, Georges Bernheim and Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler as well as celebrated artists Monet and Matisse.
With contribution from the Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum, the exhibition will present 130 major pieces by the Impresionist, Post-Impressionist and Modern masters, with an emphasis on the art of Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, Rousseau, Derain, Matisse, Picasso, Degas, Renoirs, Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh.
The exhibition is one of the most prominent events of the France-Russia Year of Cultural Tourism 2016-2017 where there will be a cultural programme designed around the exhibition, focusing on dance and music.
