YNOT was founded last year by creative designer Mao Jihong, and Stanley Wong of anothermountainman, along with artistic director and renowned Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. The fashion-forward label strives to build an open creative platform by breaking the fashion industry norm of a design team made up of a set group of designers and instead welcomes emerging talent from across Asia. This year it invited Japanese designer Michiko Suzuki to design its Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections.
The brand has become known for its bold execution, innovation and perfection of details, and their Fall/Winter 2014 Collection is no exception. Injecting a one-of-a-kind energy into the modern contemporary realms of oriental aesthetics they manage to continuously produce wearable high fashion.
Fall/Winter 2014 Collection
With this season’s theme is Dancing in the Air, the designers have sculpted an image of a free-will traveller. The collection plays with volume and movement. It uses natural materials such as viscose, cotton, silk and wool to merge relaxed oriental elements with the strict, crisp lines inspired by western architectural philosophies. Pattern plays an important role and is juxtaposed against solid colours and masculine silhouettes. With a minimalist colour palette primarily of blue, red and white, the collection relies on cut and design detail to elevate its appeal to the high fashion crowd, but with the rise of the normcore 90’s style that celebrates basic and minimalist fashion, we predict this collection will do just fine.
