Joey Yung Bringing Drama to the Stage

By Butterboom Writers  /  April 17, 2009

Butterboom’s Style Celebrity of the  week is Joey Yung.

Joey Yung, Yung Jo-yee 容祖兒  is one of Hong Kong’s most popular Cantopop singers of all times. An accomplished singer and a great performer, Joey has won the Jade Solid Gold Award for “Most Popular Female Singer Award” in 2003 with her chart hit, “My Pride”. She’s won the same prize ever since in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

2009 is the 10th anniversary of Joey’s singing career and her record company has big plans for her. Her 2009 lined-up looks like murder, with a documentary, an exhibition, a mini concert, a Mandarin album scheduled for  release in August, as well as a full length Cantonese album by year end.  Did we mentioned, she’s going on tour too, the Starlight World Tour will see Joey performing her first concert in Singapore on 18 April 2009.

At 170cm tall and a slim built,  she looks great in clothes.  Her style can be described as feminine and dramatic. She favours lots of pink, flora prints, ruffle trimming while not performing and really tunes up the drama level when on stage check out the big pouffy dresses, sparkling corset dresses, tight pants and Mad Max inspired leather assemble.  We love that she is fearless when it comes to stage clothes, clothes are like costumes to performers and Joey is a master performer, she changes her look to suit the mood she aims to create and transforms her image to great effect every time. Her costume designer, whoever she is deserves the credit for Joey’s stage costumes.

Her favourite brands: Tata Naka, Fendi, Martin Margiela, Gucci
