Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, designer of Valentino is one of the most influential designs in the world and regarded as the master of couture. His fiery red gowns are instantly recognisable in the fashion world and became his signature piece for over 40 years.
Valentino worked for several designers before he became a designer with business partner Giancarlo Giammetti in Rome, 1960. His romantic red gowns attracted socialites and royalty but in 1968, he caused a social sensation when he launched an all white collection worn by Jackie Kennedy. Overtime, he built a strong client list including Hollywood stars Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor.
He was awarded the Legion d’honneu in 2006 before his retirement in 2007. Today, Valentino is headed up by Riccardo Tisci and retails in over 90 countries with 160 stores worldwide. Their first flagship store in Hong Kong opened at Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui in 2005 and offers womenswear, menswear, accessories, shoes leather goods.
