Jill Sander was founded in 1968 by German designer Heidemarie Jiline “Jil” Sander. Sander is known as the Queen of Minimalism, for her pared-down style combined with neutral colours. She designs strong tailored pieces and minimal separates for the modern working women.
In 1999, Jill Sander was acquired by Prada. The partnership was not a smooth one, with Sanders leaving and returning to the brand a couple of times over the years. In 2004, she resigned as Creative Director of her eponymous brand. Since 2009 Sander has worked with Uniqlo to produce their +J collection featuring sharply tailored blazers, white shirts, and dresses.
Today, Jill Sanders is headed up by Rodolfo Paglialunga, who previously worked at Prada and Vionnet. He sticks to the house’s ethos of creating androgynous clothes with a focus on simplicity and elegance, remaining true to the brands heritage.
Currently, they offer menswear, womenswear, shoes and accessories.
