The house of Fendi was founded by husband and wife duo Adele and Edoardo Fendi. Established in Rome in 1925 as a leather and fur workshop, Fendi’s popularity grew because of their elegant and practical design made from high quality materials and excellent workmanship. The company soon expanded and was run by the family’s daughters; Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda. The sisters brought in designer Karl Lagerfeld who worked on creating the brand’s fashion identity including the famous black and brown double “F” logo.
With the sisters, Lagerfeld started to experiment with fur with different materials and patterns to create something new and interesting. Soon fur was accessible to everyone and seen as wearable fashion. To their credit, Fendi has designed some famous bags, one of their most famous -the Fendi Baguette (a bag shaped like a baguette bread) which came out in 1997 became the It-bag of that time when it got airtime on Sex and the City.
Today, Fendi has become a luxury fashion brand and member of LVMH group. They have 197 retail stores worldwide and offer menswear, womenswear, accessories, bags, shoes, accessories and eyewear.
