
Nicknamed the “The King of Cling” by the media, Alaïa was founded by Azzedine Alaïa in the early 1980s. He studied as a sculptor to learn about the human form but left for Paris in 1957 to pursue a fashion career. After working briefly for Christian Dior and Theirry Mugler, he debuted his couture line in 1960.
With cutting-edge skills and expert craftsmanship, his career skyrocketed during the 1980s for his sleek designs. His collection of fitted clothes of stretchy dresses and bodysuits made from knitted panels defined the Lycra movement. Models were seen in Alaïa’s skintight dresses paired with high-heeled shoes that oozed chic sex appeal. Models and other high profiled celebrities including musician Madonna and style icon Carine Roitfeld wears his feminine dresses.
Azzedine Alaïa is sold at all Joyce, Lane Crawford and Harvey Nichol stores in Hong Kong.
