The shirtdress is a style staple, but a quality version can be hard to find; from sub-par fabrics to unflattering cuts. Designer Alex Black loves the shirtdress and decided to launch her own brand with the perfect version.
Originally from the UK, Alex Black has lived in New York and is now based in Hong Kong. She spent considerable time researching the best quality for her material, and sourced the cotton for her shirt from Esquel, which also makes shirts for Ralph Lauren. To create the perfect shirtdress, she thought of every possible detail – there’s the buttons that are positioned to avoid gaps, whip-knot finish buttons (so they pop a little), bagged-out hems, superior quality interlining, thread finishes and French seams. Keeping details to a minimum, her shirtdresses are created for the perfect fit in a clean and crisp palette. She puts obsessive amounts of thought into the women who would wear her dresses.
The result is a collection consisting of 3 styles with differences in the details and cut that do not stray too far from the flattering and timeless silhouette. She has also designed the perfect range of leather belts to go with the shirts. They have the same meticulous attention to detail as her dresses and come in shades of black and dove grey with lots of holes and great hardware. There’s also a lovely wrap belt that goes around the waste twice. We love Alex Black’s obsessive attention to detail!
The Alex Black Shirt dress starts at HK$1,500 and accessories from HK$750.
