Yves Saint Laurent Film To Open In Hong Kong

Yves Saint Laurent became head of one of the world’s great fashion houses aged 21. Until his death half a century later in 2008, he was one of fashion’s dominant figures inspiring generations of aspiring designers and revolutionizing women’s fashion with the ‘Le Smoking‘ Tuxedo. This year sees the release of the feature film, directed by first-timer Jalil Lespert, which documents Laurent’s professional and private life.

French actor Pierre Niney takes the title role and bears a striking resemblance to the late designer.

Laurent, who was born in Algeria in 1936 became an extraordinary prodigy after he was appointed artistic director of Dior three years after his arrival in Paris.

Attributed with introducing the ‘cool woman’ to the runway, the film, simply titled ‘Yves Saint Laurent’, spans the course of Laurent’s life, including his now infamous days during the 1960’s and 70’s being seen with the likes of Andy Warhol and  the Rolling Stones, to his tumultuous affair with drugs and alcohol and his life-long relationship with partner and business associate,Pierre Berge.

Yves Saint Laurent will debut at the Hong Kong International Film Festival on March 25 at 9:30pm. It will hit cinemas on April 8th 2014.
