HTW: Happenings This Week, 11 – 17 January

To kick start your 2016, we’ve rounded up some of the top things to do this week in Hong. Watch films under the stars on the sky garden roof terrace of California tower or shop local design talents at Fashion Collective pop-up fashion event. We highly recommend catching a show at Undderbelly or visit the AIA Carnival.

100 Yen Love
100 Yen Love,
 Japanese film nominated for this years Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Director Masaharu Take’s drama tells the story of a 32 years old women who works at a 100 yen shop who becomes romantically involved with boxer decides to start training and go professional.

Please Don’t Tell at MO bar
MO Bar (Landmark Oriental Hotel) is bringing New York’s hottest speakeasy cocktail bar to Hong Kong for one month only. Called PDT (Please Don’t Tell), you enter the bar via a secret entrance via a phone booth to an underground themed bar. Founder and bartender Jim Meehan and Jeff Bell will be serving their finely crafted cocktails.

Koko by Kee Club
Hidetoshi Nakata, a former celebrity footballer and fashion icon has teamed up with Kee Club to open KOKO, a contemporary Japanese restaurant with an open terrace. Koko is designed as modern izakaya (a Japanese casual dining place for drinking). It has a well curated bar that stocks sakes and Japanese whiskies from Hakushi and Yamazaki.

Fashion Collective 
Visit pop-up fashion event at The Space Gallery on Hollywood Rood where you can shop local designers like coats from Worthrobe, shoes from Cipher, handbags from Cafuné and chic jewellery from Niin. On Friday 15 January, for one night only, cocktails and canapés will be served 6pm-9pm.

The Talented Mr.Ripley at Open Air Cinema
Every Saturday, Open Air Cinema is screening a series of movie classic on the sky garden roof terrace of California Tower. This Saturday, The Talented Mr.Ripley is playing. Watch movie in deck chairs under the stars with a complimentary glass of Peroni and Italian treats. Korean restaurant Jin Juu is serving pre-movie complimentary cocktails.

Shelter Skelter Music Art Festival 
Outdoor music festival held by AIA Carnival in aid to support ShelterBox, a charity that helps survivors of natural disasters. 11 local bands including indie-folk band The Bollands,  After-After Party and Shotgun Politics will be playing. Ticket entrance to the Carnival includes entry to the music festival.

A Simple Space
A Simple Space is a 60 minute circus show that is great for the family. Originating from Australia, A Simple Space consists of 7 acrobats pushing their physical limits on a basic stage. Instead of the usual fancy circus stage of bright lights and theatrical costumes, A Simple Space have gone the opposite way to provide a personal and up-close experience where viewers interact with the acrobats.

Elephant in the Room
‘The Elephant In the Room’ by Cirque Le Roux is a theatrical show which combines elements of narrative theatre, film noir and break-taking circus skills to a tell a tale of an acrobatic story. The show consists of only 4 performers (a hostess, 3 men and an elephant in the room) in a 1930s film noir love plot setting.
