H&M Hong Kong: The Frenzy Continues

By Butterboom Writers  /  March 13, 2007

Linking you up to new H&M we’ve found.

Don’t think we are the only ones covering the H&M opening in Hong Kong. The local Hong Kong media and the internet is aglow with the latest and greatest info and photos.

Madonnalicious has some great photos of the early morning frenzy. The SCMP is reporting that there were at least 20 people in line on the Friday night, 500 by 6am on Saturday and that by opening time it had swelled to 1,000 eager shoppers.

The shop paves the way for H&M’s expansion into the world’s most populous continent, with stores to follow in Shanghai and Tokyo. The Stockholm-based company will be taking on larger rival Inditex SA, the owner of the Zara chain, and Hong Kong- based outfitters including Esprit Holdings in Asia, where rising incomes and personal wealth are making the market more attractive.

We have discussed this a lot with people, and everyone says that there is no way I would be able to do it, and people are going to line up really early. So at about 1am on my way home I walked past the store just to see and already there are about 30 people waiting, all looking not so comfortable squished up against the railings.

…and that is just over the weekend. More stuff to come for sure!
