All Aboard Lancel’s Orient Express

Lancel’s launches fall 09 collection in style.

The Orient Express was the coolest way to travel in the Nineteeth Century—now the famed luxury train is the inspiration for a new handbag collection from Lancel. Earlier this month, Lancel transformed the JIA Hotel’s Drawing Room restaurant into a makeshift Orient Express carriage for the unveiling of their Fall-Winter 2009 collection. After a five-course dinner, actor Barney Cheng, designer Johanna Ho and other guests from the fashion and entertainment industry watched as four models dressed in high 19th century society style took to the stage to showcase the Lancel collection.

Inspired by the vintage colors of the Orient Express, Lancel’s new bags for FW09 included the classic Premier Flirt (below) drawstring bags in velvet, fur, fringe and patchwork options, the Caprice, inspired by the look and feel of an antique suitcase, and the Frasques, a layered, boho-chic design. It’s nice to see the revival of train travel romance—wait, these can
double as overnight bags, right?
