Shanghai Tang has dropped its first, limited-edition up-cycled collection from Kévin Germanier, who is the winner of the EcoChic Design Award contest in 2016. The design contest is a sustainable fashion design competition by environmental NGO Redress, where emerging fashion designers and students create mainstream clothing with minimal textile waste.
In this capsule collection, Germanier showcases an edgy and graphic style, but still retains the elegance behind Shanghai Tang in his vision of modern Chinese chic. In line with the award, the Central Saint Martins student used up-cycling surplus luxury fabric from previous Shanghai Tang collections. The piece that stands out from this collection is Germanier’s interpretation of a qipao dress – what a traditional beauty!
Ten per cent of sales from this collection will be donated to Redress to support its effort in promoting sustainability in the fashion industry. It will be stocked in the Hong Kong and Singapore Shanghai Tang boutiques.
