Shiatzy Chen Spring/Summer 2012

A refreshing collection.

Having just completed their 8th showing at Paris Fashion Week, Shiatzy Chen is no stranger to the game. Started in 1978, the brand is the perfect blend of Western quality craftsmanship and the East’s knack for meticulous detail. Design director Wang-Chen Tsai-Hsia applies China’s five major embroidery techniques to the garments giving them a sense of quality authenticity and attentiveness.

For Spring 2012, Shiatzy Chen looks to an image with a similar East-meets-West philosophy – snuff bottles. The intricate details of these artifacts with their carved glass and complicated color are artistically translated into a collection rich in organza and satin materials.

Imagine layers of vintage lace contrasted with flower-print jacquards set upon classic 60’s silhouettes inspired by Western icons such as Audrey Hepburn. Far from just being a western collection with oriental details, Shiatzy Chen is an example of how a marriage of two cultures can be so right.
