New York Fashion Week: BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012

Sneak a peak at Max and Lubov Azria’s fall collection.

BCBG Max Azria’s Fall 2012 collection featured colourblocks. This trend was persistent in the collection but instead of bight neon pink and orange it was made wearable with a muted colour palette of mahogany, dark cyan and burgundy. Instant updates were with panels of contrast instead of massive chunks of colours.

The shapes were athletic but sexy with long sleeved straight dresses, wide legged trousers and jumpsuits. Silhouettes were flowing; the whole collection was kept breezy and light with silk chiffons. Coral and red were added as inserts and layers underneath pleated skirts for a pop of colour.

The sporty vibe of long T-shirt was accompanied with slits and deep v-necks, which added a touch of glamorous appeal. Cuffed peep toe shoes were modern and energetic, just right for the city girls. On the models hair and makeup were kept minimal with ponytails slightly undone at the front for a casual and easy look.

Outerwear was boxy and oversized, also with patchwork. Black leather panels on a black trench were a nice touch of tone on tone. But juxtaposed fur sleeves and strong shoulders were rather deranged and out of place for such the clean and unfussy urban wear. Regardless, the collection was a fresh take on colourblocking from the Azria couple.
