First Dallas, now Dubai. Seems like Karl Lagerfeld is really getting his inspiration from all around the world! Chanel’s Cruise 2015 collection came alive in Dubai where he presented the show in pure Arabic spirit in a sand-coloured building that was built especially for the event.
This was prelude to the theme of the collection, which in Lagerfeld’s own words: “It’s my idea of an idealised East, an East that is for everybody. The influences are multiple, from fairy tales to film, from the paintings of Delacroix to the 1914 creations of Paul Poiret.”
Highlights of the collection include a bolero jacket with voluminous sleeves, a tweed playsuit belted at the waist and baggy pants in gold Lurex silk. Kaftan tunics are also a popular for the collection, featuring patterns that are so typical of Oriental art. The silhouette for each piece is ultra-contemporary and slender.
The collection is fluid and radiant, where floral and geometric prints come together in an assortment of fabrics like silk chiffon, cotton voile, gold lamé, lightweight tweed and linen. The clothes exude an easy, breezy feel – much like what a cruise collection should fell like: Confident and free. Colour palettes for the Cruise Collection are your basic white, black and beige with pop-up hues of fuchsia, mignight blue and carmine red.
