Lacoste’s Cathy Bag

By Butterboom Writers  /  August 15, 2012

A bag for the golf lovers.

Lacoste is not known for their bags however when one’s daughter is a golf champion, there’s a reason to make a bag for her. Catherine Lacoste, the daughter of Rene Lacoste is a golf champion. She won the US open in 1969 and become the youngest and only Amateur to win the US Open.

Her golf bag called the Cathy Bag is inspired by the original larger golf bag used to carry golf sticks. We are excited about this bag, because it actually looks good and has an original design we have not seen in a market where every designer’s bag is beginning to look the same.

The Cathy bag is a shoulder bag version that comes with many pockets, a handle and strap with gold pipings and a zip in the middle. It is available in plain leather or suede. The camel suede with golf piping or red patent leather piping are our top picks.

Lacoste has an interesting story to tell that dates back to 1927. Started as a bet that René Lacoste had with the Captain of the French Davis Cup Team, Allan H. Muhr, who promised him an alligator suitcase if he won an important game for the team. His nickname was “Crocodile” as he was tenacious on the tennis courts, never giving up his prey. The press picked up on this nickname and when his friend  Robert George drew him a crocodile which was embroidered on the blazer he wore on the courts, a Legend was born and a sportswear label was born. Now you know…
