What to watch out for.

We like to highlight a cavet emptor when shopping for beauty/skincare products.  Since we use these products daily, let us be aware of what it is we are actually slathering on our skin.  Butterboom will run a series of skincare products and tips to help you shop better.

To get you started, we are going to have to learn to read the labels and check for harmful ingredients. Here are a list of harmful ingredients to watch out for.

1) Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, an ingredient used by industries to clean grease in factories. Seems harsh?  It is, there is no need for us to use industrial strength cleanser to clean our face and body, stay away from products that carries this ingredient, there are gentler alternatives.

2) Parabens also labeled as methyl, proply, butyl, ethyl, isobutyl  is a preservative commonly found in shampoo and skincare, it is the main cause of allergic reaction, rashes and are labeled as carcinogenic- cancer causing.

3) Artificial fragrances are also a main cause of skin irritation. If you have sensitive skin that’s prone to breakout in rashes at the mere contact of irritants, check for artificial frangrances. As many of the ingredients are made from petroleum and contain synthetic chemicals that are carcinogenic- cancer causing.
