If a fragrance is supposed to evoke a certain mood within, then Cartier’s latest is all about embracing your inner wild side. Drawing inspiration from its heritage and more notably its emblem of the panther, the fragrance – La Panthère – represent a woman who is independent, graceful, passionate, and a little bit rebellious.
What’s interesting is that La Panthère (or Lady Panther) was also the nickname for Jeanne Toussaint, Cartier’s director of luxury jewellery from the mid-20s to the 1970s. Known for her fierce uninhibited style, Toussaint was the first to introduce the panther motif to the jewellery house and was also Louis Cartier’s lover.
Created by perfumer Mathilde Laurent, La Panthère is a floral musky composition of gardenia and chypre accord. In the mix is also nuances of rhubard, strawberries, dried fruit, apple, apricot, and oak moss. The luxurious bottle features the face of a panther carved out from a block of glass in an elegant orange-gold reflection. Meowwwww….
