For Hong Kongers who love shopping, making a trip to Singapore is usually a food and shopping trip. Singapore’s shopping strip is mainly located on Orchard Road where all the malls are inter-connected and air-conditioning keeps everyone cool. So despite the tropical humid weather all year round, you won’t have to break a sweat shopping in this city. We love Singapore’s summer outfits as there’s more variety, and there’s also more UK and US based high street brands/labels that you can’t get in Hong Kong like Topshop, Forever 21, Dorothy Perkins and Miss Selfridge.
Below are some places we would like to recommend so you can experience the whole breadth of what real Singaporean shopping is all about. Our top places to shop are:
1. Wisma Atria
This shopping mall has one of the most extensive high street brands under one roof. It’s also where the flagship Topshop store is located. There’s a great food hall, Food Republic, on the top floor which offers a great range of local Singaporean fair. We like it because it’s a great sized shopping center with all our favorite shops. This is a must visit stop for us whenever we are in Singapore.
Where? 435 Orchard Road

2. Ion Orchard
This is the latest giant mall to open in Singapore. Ion Orchard spans 8 retail floors and houses over 333 stores in a very modern and futuristic building which cost S$2 billion to build. Store mixes consists of high-end luxury brands like the usual LV, Gucci and Dior, as well as high street fashion brands and gourmet dinning venues. We recommend a stop-over just to check it out.
Where? 2 Orchard Turn, near Orchard MRT station.
3. Bugis Junction
Located above Bugis MRT station, this is Singapore’s first glass-covered, air conditioned shopping street set against old style Straits Chinese-style shop houses. We like this for its old town atmosphere and for the wide range of street fashion stores from Japan and US (Graphite, Babe) and high street store mixes that you can expect to find in this mall.

4. Haji Lane
If you love vintage, head to Haji Lane right across the road from Bugis MTR/ Bugis Junction Mall to find rows of adorable boutiques filled with local finds at great prices. Be prepared for a treasure hunt. Stores to look out for here include Dulcetig, Loft, Soon Lee and Ohsofickle.

This place is legendary. It’s a two complex building in the middle of Little India open round the clock and carries everything any shopper can think of from ethnic jewellery to the latest electronics. Forget presentation and service but expect the best prices in town. It’s worth a stop-over to pick up anything you might want to need from luggage to gifts for the folks back home. If you want to avoid the hordes, go in the early morning or after midnight.
