Porsche Phone Revs Up Its Engine

Slick and stylish, just like the car and almost as expensive.

Porsche and Sagem has just unveiled its new mobile phone here in Hong Kong (we discussed this in early August here) with its new P’9521 phone and it looks sweet and has all the tech gadgets that gives it substance as well as style like a fingerprint reader to allow access to the phone.

In addition it has the usual add-ons like a 3.2 megapixel camera with digital zoom, not 1 or 2 but 3 speakers for ringtones and MP3 playback and it uses EDGE technology to access the internet so its only a 2G phone and weighs 140 grams.

The phone comes out this fall in Hong Kong and will NOT be sold in the US, Japan or Korea. OK here is the kicker – the phone will be available at Seibu and CSL 1010 shops on September 17 and the price is – wait for it – HK$13,800 each. Yes, style and status has a price and the thing we are wondering about is, if this is the beginning of these kinds of high-style, high-price, functionality-be-damned type of mobile phones?
