Always wanted to grow a plant from seed but never quite good at it? Infact you are worried about how many plants you’ve killed over the years. Well, with Botanium, anyone can grow plants easily, infact you don’t have to do much. Founded by three friends from Stockholm – Rasmus Tretow, Johannes Roselius and Mario Sanchez – the goal of Botanium is to make inspiring, simple gardening products with the wow factor that brings out the gardeners in everyone.
How does it work?
This vase-like automatic planter is a complete kit for growing a plant from a seed. It is soil-less, which allows your plant to grow faster with less maintenance. Essentially a hydroponic pot (which means it uses a porous growing medium instead of soil) made almost entirely using a 3D-printer, Botanium allows a very regular nutrient-rich watering that is automatically controlled using a pump. This means that it takes the guesswork out of growing by automatically watering the plants every day. This way, you can’t over or under water your plant, which is one of the most common ways people kill their plants.
All you have to do is check the water level and refill when necessary. With a full tank, Botanoum can last a month, depending on the plant and conditions. Aside from that, Botanium lets you have potentially faster growth, no soil borne pests, bigger yields and automation. Plus, its simple and elegant design lets you place it by the window sill or under a lamp without taking up too much space. Plants that you grow with Botanium? Mostly edible plants like chilli, herbs and even strawberries!
Botanium is currently available on Kickstarter. Pledges start at USD39 (HK$302) where the first 100 Botaniums sold on Kickstarter are at a 50% discount. Retail price is approximately USD79 (HK$612).
