By Butterboom Writers  /  May 24, 2013

Discounts worth braving the crowds for. Tsim Sha Tsui is one of Hong Kong’s busiest shopping districts, concentrated along Canton Road and the surrounding area. Home to almost all of the major high-end designer brands and high-street stores, it is also home to Hong Kong’s only in-town outlet mall. Wander a little bit further up Canton Road to where the crowds begin to thin and you will find Hong Kong China City, the location of around 20 outlet stores. This is not the only place to grab a bargain though, read on to discover more…

I.T Outlet
This is the ultimate destination in discount designer shopping. I.T has long held the reputation for being the go-to store to find cutting edge, avant garde designers from Japan and Europe, and it is at this outlet store that these designers’ clothing ends up to be sold at huge discounts. This place is huge and clearly laid out by designer, it also includes an excellent footwear collection conveniently organised according to size. Amongst the brands on offer you can find Alexander McQueen, See by Chloe, Maison Martin Margiela, Acne and Isabel Marant, and most items are around 70% off the original price. Allow yourself time to look through everything and work through it methodically, you could be there for hours.

Marathon Sports Outlet
Located on the upper-ground floor of China Hong Kong City, rubbing shoulders with several other outlets, you will find the Marathon Sports Outlet. They have an extensive collection of running shoes and casual footwear including offerings from Nike, Adidas, New Balance and Converse. Prices start from HK$300 and go up to about HK$700, which means that it is significantly less than the original asking price. They also carry a small collection of basic women’s sportswear with up to 40% discount.

Tough Jeansmith Outlet
Just a few strides away from Marathon Sports you will find Tough Jeansmith Outlet, a slightly dark store that doesn’t look like much from the outside. It is worth checking out though, we found Paul’s Boutique‘s signature colourful totes and a good selection of Salad handbags in various styles and sizes all for around a 50% discount. Clothing wise they have London based street style brand Religion, whose tops start at about HK$350, Superdry shirts from HK$500 and a wide range of Bauhaus jeans starting at HK$650. The rails are pretty tightly packed so you will have to sort through what’s for you and what isn’t, but you’re likely to be rewarded in the end.

Initial Outlet
Known for offering apparel that’s a little bit different, Initial are a favourite amongst Hong Kong’s style set for their edgy, vintage inspired apparel. The nice thing about this outlet is that they have paid as much attention to the décor as they would if it were a normal store, the antique look and old artefacts are all here, the only thing that is different is the pricing. Admittedly we did go in when there was a sale, meaning that there was up to 80% off original prices, but it seemed that on the whole you should expect to pay about HK$1,000 for a dress, HK$700 for a top and HK$1,000 for a pair of shoes.

Milan Station
Located just a hop, skip and a jump from Canton Road on Haiphong Road, you will find Milan Station. This place sells new and second-hand designer leather goods at slight discounts. If it’s new, there is only a 5% discount, which isn’t huge but it’s something. Second hand items carry a 10% discount, not much for something that’s pre-owned you might say, but these bags are in excellent condition and look basically brand new. Choose from Celine, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Bottega Veneta amongst others.
