Guide to shopping in SoHo: Part 1

Y&Y Soho Hong Kong
By Butterboom Writers  /  March 11, 2011

SoHo district in Hong Kong is an entertainment zone located in Central and bordering Sheung Wan district. The name is derived from its location: South of Hollywood road and extends up to Robinson road.

SoHo is always a busy place because there are lots of great restaurants and trendy bars where the midlevels population frequent after work. Over the last 6-8 years, privately-owned fashion stores owned by individual owners with a passion for fashion have set up cute little boutiques, all with their own individual character and identity.

Hong Kong’s SoHo is a much friendlier neighborhood than New York’s or London’s in terms of what it has to offer, and the beauty is that you can still shop after your dinner here as most shops stay open late. We’d love to share with you some of our favourite shops in the area…

ROOMI

This integrated lifestyle store not only sells vintage fashion but also features trendy lighting, home deco, gifts and other nice surprises. We love its selection of brand new reproduction vintage jackets, skirts and dresses from Korea. It’s retro, sophisticated and will never go out of fashion.

MTC

MTC means Miss T. Company and it houses plenty of cocktail dresses and matching accessories like eye-catching colorful cocktail rings, handmade necklaces, hats and belts. We bought a nicely carved gold plated butterfly design necklace for HK$299 which is a great accessory to go with any little black dress you must own.

MINT & LEMONGRASS

Just like the name of the shop, the fashion here is refreshing and fun. There are plenty of colorful one-piece weekend jerseys and evening dresses to chose from and Marc Jacobs look-a-like dresses, wrap dresses and skirts at discounted prices can be found on the corner rack.

INDIGO

Indigo is owned by former investment banker Eizelle Taino, this is Hong Kong’s first designer denim bar that specializes in premium denim jeans with different cuttings to suit any bum. Besides jeans, we also like their Japanese-influenced design long pouches which are functional yet playful. A great complement to wear with your jeans for a cocktail ready look.

TOLEDO

If you’re looking for a really sexy party or cocktail dress, you won’t be disappointed when you step into Toledo. Here you’ll find LBDs, Spanish flow red dresses, long evening gowns with crystals and sequins, and corsets and couture-like dresses all well displayed. Some other tops are also marked down to HK$199 when we made our visit.
