After Time Exhibition at Pearl Lam Galleries

Erica Lai - The Observatory Series No.1, 2008–2014
By   /  August 5, 2014

Pearl Lam Galleries is currently showing works by Chung Seo Young (Seoul), Erica Lai (Singapore), and Morgan Wong (Hong Kong) in the exhibition entitled After Time, from now through ’til the 10th of September.

Chung’s sculptures, Lai’s photography, and Wong’s performance art all approach time and object-hood from a formal perspective. The exhibition explores temporality in art by attempting to stage a temporal arrest with a series of art objects. Chung Seoyoung’s sculpture, installation, and video works relate objects to the human body, questioning their effects on our psychology, and causes viewers to question their relationship with time. Erica Lai’s photographic works feature the vantage points of various tourist attractions, focusing on the area where one would typically stand for a good view instead of the actual scenic view. While Morgan Wong transforms the gallery space into a temporary artists’ studio, which he occupies periodically, to examine what is lost during the translation between performance, time, and materiality.
