Subversive Undertones by Jesse Mc Lin at Amelia Johnson Contemporary

Hong Kong based American artist Jesse Mc Lin is showing his works at the Amelia Johnson Contemporary from now until the 2nd of April. The artist’s solo exhibition entitled Subversive Undertones, showcases a series of elusive paintings on paper and installation.

The exhibition features artworks with portraits that express Mc Lin’s feelings of confidence and awkwardness as well as the tension felt between social interaction, intends to provoke viewers’ personal and emotional resonance.

Mc Lin received his eduction and worked in the States before he came to Hong Kong in 2008. The artist creates his paintings with numerous layers of images, where some layers are in the shadows, some are changed, some are washed out; the resolved paintings are diverse with plenty of pictorial information.
