Sotheby’s will stage a unique three-part sale of its Bowie/Collector auction that includes a selection of over 300 items from the private collection of David Bowie. Sotheby’s is holding an exhibition of 35 pieces from this collection at the Hong Kong’s Sotheby’s gallery in Pacific Place before the auction which will be on 10-11 November in London. This is a rare chance to view a part of his collection consisting of works from Jean-Michel Basquit, Damien Hirst and Marcel Duchamp.
Part 1 of the auction which will be held in London features pieces of the most important British artists of the 20th century including work from Damien Hirst from the 1990s, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland and Eduardo Paolozzi. Part 11 of the auction sale includes German Expressionist prints, Picasso ceramics, collections of Contemporary African and Outsider Art, and a Surrealist chess set by Man Ray with part 111 showing Bowie’s collection of art objects from eccentric Italian designer Ettore Sottsass and the Milan-based Memphis group.
