Sotheby’s Kicks off Auction in Beijing with ‘Beijing Art Week’

Sotheby’s is set to hold a cultural milestone event for China’s capital to take place at the end of November. The China World Summit Wing in Beijing will play host to the exciting event which will feature several art events encompassing gallery walks and Sotheby’s first auction in Beijing of – Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art, European Modern Masters: From Rembrandt to Picasso ‎- Representation of the Figure in Western Art, Age of Elegance: European Paintings, Furniture and Works of Art From the 19th Century, and Sotheby’s Diamonds.  The total value of art, furniture and jewellery going on auction is collectively valued at over US$212 million.

The four day event takes advantage of Beijing’s vibrant and growing arts scene and is expected to attract many eager Chinese collectors looking to invest in quality art. The Beijing Art Week has something for both established collectors and newcomers. Besides the auction, there are also a series of educational programmes featuring top scholars from China and Sotheby’s specialists.
