By Butterboom Writers  /  October 15, 2014

South African Artist Lionel Smit is exhibiting at the Cat Street Gallery. His exhibition titled Contronym, is his first solo show in Asia. Lionel Smit explores the duality of identity in his work. The visuals of portraitures expresses the bursts of energy, of tension of two things pulling in opposite directions and movements. The works utilising canvas, silkscreen and sculpture transforms the everyday and ordinary into something beautiful.

About the artist – Smit, lives and work in South Africa and has established an international following throughout the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia. His collectors range from the Standard Chartered Bank, Laurence Graff of Delaire Wine Estate and founder of GRAFF Diamonds to the Rand Merchant Bank of South Africa.
