“High School Story – Satsuki-tan & Miyabi-kyun: Favorite”, MR.
By Butterboom Writers  /  October 2, 2013

Galerie Perrotin exhibition “Sweet!” will showcase works by Japanese contemporary artist MR. A former protégé of Takashi Murakami, MR’s works play with the subject of otaku and the fusion of high-context sub-culture and low-context contemporary art.

Using “cute” characters drawn in an anime/manga style, his paintings subtly hints at the sexualized portrayal of young women prevalent in otaku, leaving the audience to decide how innocent his work actually is. The exhibition will feature never-before-seen paintings from the artist with young, innocent looking anime girls set as the focus of his works.
