American artist Lauren Matsumoto is showcasing her work titled “Fragments” at Fabrik Contemporary Art Space. This exhibition shows Matsumoto’s whimsical acrylic paintings and mixed-media works on paper that uses traditional painting and drawing techniques mixed with collage to tell a story. Using antique photographs, drawings from out-of-print erotic magazines, old junk mails, discarded vintage items she finds from antique shops during her travels, she takes ‘fragments’ of history to create narrative landscapes that captures a time past and presents in a modern contemporary fashion.
About the artist
Matsumoto started painting at 14 years of age and studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design, the New York Studio School is a graduate of Yale University. She has won numerous awards and prizes, and has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the USA, the Middle East and Japan.
Her works are collected by private and public bodies including the Morean Arts Center, St. Petersburg, Florida; the Gardner Collection, Brooklyn, New York; the Mytilineou Collection, Athens, Greece; the Valentino Family Collection, New York; the Blumenthal Collection, New York; and the Aiyar Collection, New York.
