Double Take is an exhibition by French artists Paul Alexis and Gully that is taking place at Opera Gallery till 12 February.
Double Take is a collection of work from both artists that speaks about the comical reaction to a surprising sight as the title implies. The exhibition takes scenes from 20th century art history to contemporary art period, taking the traditionally linear continuum of art history and place them within new contexts, inspiring viewers to look at the act of perception in a playful way. In a way re-representing history in unexpected way.
About the Artists
Paul Alexis was born in France and holds the prestigious position as President of the French Salon Comparisons in Paris and has been knighted by the French National Order of the Legion of Honor; his art is collected by numerous private collections around the world. He is known for large-scale steel structures
Gully, also French, is a contemporary French street artist who is exhibiting in Asia for the first time. His striking meta-paintings exhibited in “Double Take” also pay tribute to the legends of the art world, in facetious scenes of co-existence between art and observer.
