Sichuan born artist, Lan Zhenghui is one of the most influential contemporary Chinese calligraphy artist today. He is known for his large scale, monumental abstract ink paintings will be showcasing 12 pieces of his work at Galerie du Monde. Lan is a member of the “85 New Art Movement” and is credited with his colleagues for establishing “Mian Shu Xie” the concept of contemporary calligraphy where the artist uses power brush movement to promote the natural sense of motion and power in ink brush. Lan produces ink painting by using a freehanded approach by splashing ink on paper to convey a range of complex emotions through the densities of ink.
About the Artist
Lan Zhenghui is graduate of the Sichuan Academy of Art in 1987. He was funded by the Canadian government to host a solo exhibition at the National Art Museum of China titled “Lan Zhenghui Tiliang Shuimo” and was invited to the Toronto Art Exposition as the only representative of contemporary Chinese calligraphy. He is one of the key contemporary Chinese ink artist who has contributed to putting the spotlight on contemporary Chinese ink painting and calligraphy on the global stage.
