Christie’s Asia+ sale of the Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art auction in April raised a combined total of HK$29 million. Marcello Kwan, Associate Vice President of Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art said the resounding success of the inaugural sale of ASIA+ reflected a continued and growing demand for works by artists across different generations that fit comfortably in a mid-level collecting range.
Top lots sold at the auction were Bathroom (oil on canvas) by Zeng Fanzhi, which went for HK$6.64 Million, Bloodline Series – Big Family: Comrade (oil on canvas) by Zhang Xiaogang, fetched HK$6.04 Million, and Zeng Fanzhi’s Mask Series: Sky (color pencil on paperboard) which set the world auction record of a work on paper for the artist with HK$1.96 Million, a figure well above its estimated price.
