Architectural Installation Works on Display at Pacific Place

Pacific Place RIBA Installation Art 25th Anniversary Hall Of Fame
By Butterboom Writers  /  May 29, 2014

To celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Pacific Place has partnered up with the Royal Institute of British Architects, Hong Kong Chapter (RIBA) to showcase three architecturally designed multimedia installations that are on display at various spots of the mall.

At the Garden Court on LG1, the “This is OUR Place” installation combines rattan weaving with digital animation. It features rows of hanging horns as well as digital animation displays of interviews with renowned designer Alan Chan, lifestyle gurus and socialites Candice Chan-Chao, Dee Poon and Brandon Chau, stylist Ricky Kwok, fashion icon and award-winning lyricist Wyman Wong, amongst others.

On Level 1 is “Hall of Fame”, a collection of giant birthday cards featuring greetings to Pacific Place from Creative Directors of many of the famous brands at the mall. Each one is presented on an elegant, sustainable bamboo strip that is suspended from the ceiling to give a delightful impression of airy lightness. The bamboo work features also a specially crafted lighting that forms a gigantic Pacific Place 25th Anniversary emblem.

The third installation “Now and Then” consists of five organically-shaped structures arranged in a unique pentagon. They sit atop five pots of varying heights — looking like some futuristic plants — to represent the mall’s growth and cultivation throughout the years. Within the structures are television screens playing videos that take viewers on a walk through Pacific Place’s history. This installation is located at Park Court on Level 1.
