Hong Kong French Film Festival, kicks off on the 21st of November and will go on till the 11th of December. The Hong Kong French Film Festival is an annual event in Hong Kong and this year marks the 47th installment.  It is still one of the most popular film festivals frequented by movie buffs in Hong Kong. Its when all the Frenchies living in Hong Kong and Francophiles catch up on French movies.   

With a list of award-winning French films showing at the festival over 4 themes, there’s something for everyone. International Festival Acclaim featuring a great selection of films presented in different international film festivals;  comedies, films on motherhood; and everyone’s all-time favourite genre romance. Making an appearance during the festival are directors and composers who will be attending the meet-and-greet sessions. Expect to see directors like Pierre Salvadori, Yann Gonzales and Denis Do; and Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat and Serge Franklin.

Here are some of the film highlights:
The Trouble with You (En Liberté) by director Pierre Salvadori
A young widow discovers that her husband may not be who she thought he was. Starring French actresses Adele Haenel and Audrey Tautou. Director Salvadori will present this film and meet the Hong Kong audience at the opening ceremony of the film festival.

Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno by director Abdellatif Kechiche
A story of early adulthood. The film was picked as an Official Selection for the Venice International Film Festival 2018.

Sink or Swim (Le Grand Bain) by director Gilles Lellouche
A comedy about a group of 40-something guys on the verge of a mid-life crisis who decide to form their local pool’s first-ever synchronised swimming team for men. A Out of Competition Selection for the Cannes International Film Festival 2018, it stars a stellar cast of French male actors such as Guillaume Canet, Mathieu Amalric, Jean-Hugues Anglade and Alban Ivanov.

Belleville Cop (Le Flic de Belleville) by director Rachid Bouchareb
A hilarious tribute to Eddie Murphy by The Intouchables leading actor Omar Sy.

Funan by director Denis Do
An animation movie about Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge. The film was awarded Cristal for a Feature Film in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2018.

Girls of the Sun (Les Filles du Soleil) by director Eva Husson
Based on true events, the film tells the story of two female characters immersed in conflict between the Kurds and Islamic extremists. It was picked as an Official Selection for the Cannes International Film Festival 2018 and a Special Presentations Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018.

A Paris Education (Mes Provinciales) by director Jean-Paul Civeyrac
An endearing portrait of a questioning youth, the film was picked as a Panorama Selection for the Berlin International Film Festival 2018.

Eva by director Benoît Jacquot
A must-watch thriller starring Frances most nominated actress for the César Award, Isabelle Huppert. The film was picked as an Official Selection for the Berlin International Film Festival 2018.
