A few years back, I was introduced through a mutual blogger friend to Joey Ma. At that stage, he was a blogger but had a day job which was completely unrelated to fashion. I was amazed at his incredible passion for fashion and also his brave personal style especially for Hong Kong. This is the guy who can rock up to an event wearing a long black skirt, Rick Owens boots and a black tiara and make it look incredibly fabulous. From that first time, I became an official fan of his blog. He had fun with fashion and also I respect anyone who can rock a pair of hot pants better than Kylie Minogue!
Such talent does not stay unnoticed for long and Joey began to work with some HK fashion magazines showcasing his androgynous style. He then began to style some local celebrities such as the actress and tv personality Do Do. He managed to continue to push boundaries on what men and women should or should not wear with his fearless style. Japan totally welcomed his style and he became a regular model for uber cool shop Wut Berlin.
Joey then took the brave step to become a full time blogger and stylist and it has paid off with him working as a stylist for HK movies. He has now taken his artistic talent (he is also a very talented painter) and created his own line of clothing. His paintings have been featured in galleries in Tokyo and also in Festival Walk.
His first collection consists of t-shirts, shirts, shorts and leggings all featuring Joey’s beautiful painting works. The colours are strong yet dreamy. Though obviously more men’s wear focused, it also reflects Joey’s own androgynous style as all pieces can happily be worn by women. Though may be slightly intimidating as a head to toe look, the individual pieces would look great paired with a pair of slim cut pants or a pair of jeans or even a pencil skirt. The leggings remind me of some vintage Christian Lacroix and can be worn under simple one colour tops.

In celebration of the launch of his new collection, Joey has collaborated with Asian accessories brand Candies who are famous for their fun phone colours. This accessories collection is youthful and fun and would add a lot of fun to a simple LBD. Also reflecting Joey’s mottos in life, the necklaces feature meaningful sayings.
