If you lust after the minimalist cool style of Celine, Alexander Wang and 3.1 Phillip Lim but cant quite stomach the hefty price tag, then KARA Handbags, a young line that just got picked up by ShopBop and who recently debuted their FW14 and Resort 15 collections in Hong Kong, might just be the answer.
New York based hand bag brand, KARA was founded in 2012 by California born and Hong Kong raised Sarah Law. Law attended Parsons School of Design and, in 2008 during her senior year, was the recipient of the school’s highest honours as nominee for Designer of the Year. Referred by the fashion director of Bergdorf Goodman at the time, upon graduation Sarah worked at Gap under Creative Director Patrick Robinson designing women’s accessories. Shortly after leaving Gap, Sarah launched KARA in the fall of 2012. The name KARA is derived from the Japanese word Karaoke and whether or not it was intended, there is a definite air of cool Japanese style to the brand.
The label focuses on functional leather goods that give priority to quality craftsmanship, concentrating on minimal hardware and branding to emphasise the beauty of a simple, refined design. For KARA, Sarah designs accessories she would like to wear, basing the aesthetic on an international urban and active lifestyle. She appreciates simplicity with a playful curiosity and puts focus on fabric and textures to add interest rather than complex designs. We love how versatile the designs are without being boring. It goes without saying that a bag that can be worn for any occasion is one worth having, and ranging in price from HK$1,200-HK$4,000 means you wont break the bank either. Best you get your hands on one now.
Prices range from HK$1,200-HK$4,000
