California based Patagonia is an outdoor apparel brand that designs gear for outdoor sports like climbing, surfing, skiing and snowboarding and trail running.
Founded by Yvon Chouinard who began making climbing pitons in a workshop in his backyard. During that time, climbing clothes consisted of basic gray sweatshirts and pants so Chouinard started to design and wear his own climbing clothes which were bright and colourful. Soon, all of his friends requested for his colourful climbing clothes and he launched Patagonia.
Despite being famous for their climbing clothes, they now offer a range of apparel for skiers, surfers and climbers. Though Patagonia is sport specific, some of the company’s best sellers are the fleeces, rain jackets and coats in different bright colours.
In 2010, Patagonia was awarded Gear of the Year by the National Geographic Adventure Blog and Editor’s Choice by the OutdoorGearLab.
