Named after the founder, Giovanni Panerai established his company in 1860 in Florence, Italy. With heritage roots linked to the sea, Panerai were the official suppliers of precision instruments to the Royal Italian Navy in the 1900s. Later on, the Italian Navy requested for waterproof wristwatches so Panerai took his first step in watch making by developing timepieces for combat swimmers. The Radiomir was the first diving watch and a decade later replaced by the Laminar model. These two designs have formed the foundations of the company whose name is still linked to the maritime world.
