H&M, Hennes & Mauritz is one of the largest and fastest growing fashion fashion retailer in the world. When Erling Perssoon founded the brand in Sweden in 1947, the store only sold womenswear and so it was aptly named Henness, meaning hers in Swedish. In 1960’s, Perssoon bought Mauritz Widforss, a hunting and fishing equipment store and added menswear and a kids line and so Henness became Hennes & Mauritz (H&M).
H&M makes casualwear clothes inspired by the catwalk and get them into production quickly and because of the sheer volume is able to offer them at a low price making fashionable clothes available for all. Their designer collaborations with established fashion names like Lanvin, Balmain, Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Maison Martin Margiela where a capsule collection is produced and offered at H&M prices are hugely successful with customers camping overnight outside stores to buy entire collections.
H&M exists in 57 countries, has over 3,500 stores and employ over 132,000 people. The H&M group is made up of 6 brands: H&M, COS, Cheap Monday, Monki, Weekday and & Other Stories. The group is the second largest global clothing retailer in the world.
