De Beers is the world’s biggest diamond company in the world. In 1888 Cecil Rhodes decided to venture into the untapped market of diamonds when they were discovered in mine fields in Africa. Soon he owned all the mine fields in Africa including the world’s biggest mines; the De Beers and Kimberly mine. At that time, both mines produced the biggest sources of diamonds and controlled 90% of the world diamond production.
After 124 year, De Beers opened their first store in London in 2002 and in the following year, they began to grow globally by opening their first international store in Tokyo, Japan. Today not only are they the biggest diamond miners and distributors in the world, they are also retailers with 30 stand-alone fine jewellery stores worldwide offering high-end jewellery pieces including earrings, bracelets, necklaces and watches.
