Céline was founded in 1945 by Parisian Céline Vipiana after the war. She started with a self named boutique in Paris, selling exquisite children’s shoes. The popularity of her shoes lead to a women’s clothing line and accessories. Keeping an eye on quality material, she innovated with fabric and shapes and quickly become popular in the 1960s and 1970s.
In 1996, Céline, was acquired by LVMH and place Phoebe Philo as the Creative Director in 2008. Phoebe’s has been influential in reinvented the way women dress and transformed Céline into a cult brand revered by fashionistas and copied by many. Phoebe has invented a great many Céline bags since she came on board. The ‘Cabas’, ‘Luggage’ and “Classic’, all distinguished by their strong identifiable shapes, paired-down look with just the minimum hardware details creating a huge commercial success story for the brand.
